The Partnach Gorge with children
What it costs for a family
The published tariff has two rates that matter to families: about ten euros for an adult and about five euros for anyone aged 6 to 17. There is no family ticket. I have not found a published price for children under six, so I am not going to tell you it is free — ask at the hut. The full list, including the group rate for 15 or more, is on the tickets page.
The walk is the plan
Four and a half kilometres in total, with the gorge in the middle of it. With small children that is the whole afternoon, and it is worth treating the walk up the valley as part of the outing rather than an obstacle before it. One reviewer on the canyon and waterfall day trip called it “the most beautiful day of my daughter’s vacation… These gorges with a waterfall”, which is roughly how it goes when the timing is right.
On accessibility I have nothing to offer. No source I can reach says whether the path works with a pushchair, and inventing an answer to a question about a wet walkway above a river is not something I will do. Ask the operator, and read how difficult it is for what is actually on record.
The operator warns that “Kurzfristige Schließungen sind aus Sicherheitsgründen manchmal unumgänglich” — short-notice closures for safety are sometimes unavoidable. Rockfall and high water are the reasons a gorge shuts, and neither gives notice. Check partnachklamm.de the morning you travel, and have a second plan for the day.
Frequently asked questions
How much do children pay at the Partnach Gorge?
about five euros for anyone aged 6 to 17, against about ten euros for an adult, paid at the entrance. There is no family ticket in the published tariff. See the full tariff.
Is the Partnach Gorge free for under-6s?
The published tariff lists adults and 6–17s and I have found no figure for younger children, so I will not state one. Ask at the hut when you arrive.
Is the Partnach Gorge good for kids?
The gorge is 702 m of made path, but the walk in from the ski stadium is 2.2 km each way and there is no road to the gate — that is the part to plan around. See how long the walk takes.
Can I take a pushchair into the gorge?
No source I can reach says either way, so this site does not answer it. Ask the operator before you travel.
